Foot Fighters - Everlong Music Video Analysis

Foo – Fighters Music video Everlong is rock music style and the story of the video is based on two couples back in the early years because of the black and white at the start and the costumes their wearing Old fashioned, Punk type. What makes this music video so good is that it’s original and surreal with the growing of the big hand and that the couple in bed are dreaming and both of their dreams link in together. The Target Audience for this music video would be around ages 10 or over because of the violence and Foo Fighter Rock Fans, Emo’s and maybe Causal people might listen to this.

The Setting is in a house, the main story of it is held in the bedroom where the couple are dreaming. Before the bedroom you see pictures on the wall next to the stairs of them to identify that they love each other. The other two settings are in the lodge in the woods where the wife is at in her dream, The Party is where the Husband is set. With the Camera placed over the heads of the couple when they’re sleeping and the video effect is set that signifies that they are dreaming. The main actors in the video are actual the cast of the music group, Dave Grohl – Lead singer, Taylor Hawkens – Drummer, Chris Shiflett – Lead Gutair and Nate Mendel – Bass.

Dark Lighting was used to make it have a more horror feel and when dreaming suppose to be nightmares. Non Diegetic sound was used and that was the music that has been overlayed because recorded them while shooting the music video would be harder and lower quality. You can’t hear any Diegetic sound in the video such as voice of characters, Sounds made by objects.

Film techniques, many camera angles were used such as Medium shots and long shots that tell the story better and close up shots to show facial expression, tracking shots were used when the guy was entering the door to the party, following him.

Editing used for effects like the black and white colour correction, Sped up when the camera is going up the stairs to the bedroom, a water effect dream like effect to transition settings between the bedroom to the party/lodge. The effect of the big hand growing, and when he beats up the “bad guys” in the music video they drop to the floor and dissolve into skeletons and transition to the woods to come after the girl. When the random girls are in the bed with the main character the legs transition into wood pile that he was carrying in the dream and right at the end where the “bad guys” are out the dream into the bedroom and the two of the band members heads come out of their mouths, lots of flashing effects and see the whole band come together playing.

Overall the music video is funny and entertaining, many different effects used and the story line was good, the music is in good quality and anyone who loves Foo Fighters would like this song.
